Terror Attack in Jammu Four Soldiers Killed in Doda Region

In the latest surge of violence in the disputed region, at least four soldiers have lost their lives in a gunfight with suspected militants in Indian-administered Kashmir.

On Monday night, security forces found themselves under attack during a search operation in the dense forests of Doda district in Jammu.

An official reported that the encounter commenced when troops initiated a search operation in the Desa forest belt. The troops from Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group of J&K Police were scouring the Dhari Gote Urarbagi area, approximately 55 km from Doda town.

Earlier that day, security forces had received information about suspicious movements, prompting a search operation across the Jammu, Doda, and Reasi districts.

Initial Suspicion and Search Operations

The operation followed a villager's alert regarding the movement of three individuals in combat attire in Jammu's Akhnoor sector and surrounding areas. Despite the alert, nothing was discovered at that time. It remains unclear if the evening search operation was connected to this earlier input.

The relatively peaceful Jammu region has experienced a rise in violence recently, with at least eight attacks reported since June. Last week, five soldiers were killed in an ambush in another part of the region, which is contested by both India and Pakistan.

Increased Violence and Tragic Incidents

Last month, nine people were killed, and 33 were injured when suspected militants opened fire on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims. On 8 July, five soldiers were ambushed and killed in Kathua district.

Monday night's confrontation began when militants, allegedly hiding in the forests, opened fire. According to reports, the Indian army stated that its forces came under attack while conducting a search based on intelligence inputs.

Casualties and Reinforcements

The exchange of fire resulted in critical injuries to five soldiers, four of whom later succumbed to their injuries. The army shared this information on X (formerly Twitter).

In response to the attack, reinforcements have been deployed to the area to prevent the militants from escaping.

Government Response and Strategic Changes

In light of these incidents, Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed the forces to adopt tactics used in Kashmir to curb violence in Jammu. Additionally, the Army has dispatched extra troops to the Rajouri-Poonch sector to bolster security efforts.
