Union Defence Minister and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajnath Singh officially submitted his candidacy from the Lucknow seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Seeking Third Term in Lok Sabha

Singh, aiming for his third term as a Lok Sabha MP from Lucknow, previously clinched victories in the Lok Sabha elections from Ghaziabad in 2009 before contesting and winning his first election from Lucknow in 2014.

Before filing of nomination papers, Rajnath Singh also held a two-kilometer roadshow in the city and visited and offered prayers at Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Temple in Lucknow.

The fifth phase of elections is scheduled for May 20, when Lucknow along with thirteen other constituencies will go under voting.

Campaign Highlights

Neeraj Singh, the son of Defence Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh, who serves as the campaign in-charge for his father’s constituency, revealed that the slogan for Lucknow this time is “Abki Baar 5 Lakh Paar.”

In an interview with CNN-News18, Neeraj, affectionately called Neeraj Bhaiya and regarded as the go-to person in Lucknow, shared that he is conducting five Nukkad Sabhas every day to increase the margin by 5 lakh votes.

When questioned about being regarded as the key figure in Lucknow, Neeraj, who receives over 100 calls daily from Lucknow residents, stated, “We are born and raised in Lucknow, and this constituency is like a big family to us. Over the last 20 years in politics, we have served society with a selfless motive. My father, a founding member of this party, and we work to serve society, not with the intention of garnering votes.
