Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, accused
of sexually abusing multiple women, was interrogated following his arrest by
the Special Investigation Team (SIT) upon his arrival at Kempegowda
International Airport in Bengaluru early Friday morning.
The Janata Dal-Secular leader - who was on
Lufthansa flight LH0764 - was taken into custody by members of a police team
tasked with investigating charges against him. Sources said he had twice
earlier cancelled flights home.
Further
Procedure
The 33 year-old MP, who arrived from Munich,
was taken to the CID office for interrogation, sources in the SIT said. The SIT
is also contemplating a potency test on Prajwal. The Special Court for Public
Representatives will hear the bail plea of Prajwal and his mother Bhavani
Revanna on Friday.
Allegations
and Charges Against Prajwal Revanna
Three separate cases have been filed.
The first, filed on April 28 in Hassan,
involves a 47-year-old former maid who has accused him of sexual assault and
exploitation. HD Revanna was arrested in connection with this case, with rape
charges added against Prajwal Revanna following the woman's additional
statement.
The second case, registered by the police on
May 1, involves a 44-year-old woman, possibly a JDS worker, who has accused
Prajwal Revanna of raping her multiple times, including once at gunpoint.
The third case, filed on May 3, involves a
60-year-old woman who has also accused Prajwal Revanna of rape.
Prajwal Revanna has denied all allegations,
claiming they are part of a conspiracy by his rivals.
Escape
to Germany
Following the allegations, Revanna departed
for Germany on April 27, just one day after the polls in Hassan. An 'Interpol
Blue Corner Notice' was issued to locate his whereabouts, based on a request
from the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Video Statement and Family Pressure
On Monday, Revanna released a video statement
on X, apologizing to his parents and explaining that he had been in depression
due to political rivals' attacks related to the sexual assault charges. He
stated he would appear before the police team on May 31 and cooperate fully,
expressing his reliance on divine blessings.
This statement followed a warning from his
grandfather, JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, who told him to return to India and
surrender or "face your family's anger."
