Prime Minister
Narendra Modi is embarking on a significant two-day visit to the United Arab
Emirates (UAE), marking a historic moment with the inauguration of the first
Hindu temple, the ‘BAPS Mandir’, in Abu Dhabi. This visit underscores the
burgeoning strategic partnership between India and the UAE, as PM Modi engages
in bilateral discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The agenda includes talks on deepening cooperation and addressing regional and
global challenges of mutual concern.
A highlight of PM
Modi’s itinerary is his participation in the ‘Ahlan Modi’ event at the Zayed
Sports City Stadium, which has garnered immense interest from the Indian
diaspora. Despite adverse weather conditions, the enthusiasm remains palpable,
with over 2,500 individuals attending full-ground rehearsals and volunteer
briefings. The event, which has already closed registrations due to
overwhelming response, is expected to draw a crowd of over 65,000 attendees,
showcasing the vibrant spirit of the Indian community in the UAE.
Moreover, PM Modi is
scheduled to meet with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice
president, prime minister, and defense minister of the UAE, further solidifying
bilateral ties. His participation in the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai
as a guest of honor underscores India's global significance and its commitment
to international cooperation.
The Indian expatriate
community, comprising approximately 3.5 million people, constitutes a
significant portion of the UAE’s population, reflecting deep-rooted cultural
and economic ties between the two nations. The 'Ahlan Modi' event serves as a
platform to celebrate India’s rich cultural diversity, with over 700 artists
participating in an exhibition. Notably, more than 150 Indian community groups,
including blue-collar workers from various Emirates, will actively contribute,
highlighting the inclusivity and unity within the Indian diaspora.
A noteworthy aspect
of the event is the active participation of women, symbolizing empowerment,
communal harmony, and collective engagement. The 'Nari Shakti’ of the Indian
community has demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, underscoring the vital role
of women in fostering social cohesion and community development.
PM
Modi’s visit to the UAE signifies a milestone in bilateral relations,
characterized by cultural exchange, economic collaboration, and
people-to-people ties. The ‘Ahlan Modi’ event exemplifies the strength and
dynamism of the Indian diaspora, serving as a testament to the enduring
friendship between India and the UAE.
