Communal unrest gripped Udaipur,
Rajasthan on Friday, August 16, following an altercation between two students
at a government school, during which one of the students was reportedly stabbed
with a knife. Members of Hindu organizations gathered in the city's Madhuban
area after the incident, leading to outbreaks of arson and violence.
Internet Services Suspended and
Prohibitory Orders Imposed
In response to the escalating
situation, internet services were suspended across Udaipur for 24 hours.
The administration also imposed
prohibitory orders, which banned the assembly of people in the city. According
to police reports, a mob engaged in stone-pelting and set fire to three or four
cars, prompting the authorities to take swift action to prevent further
violence.
With tensions on the rise and in an
effort to minimize damage, local markets, including Bapu Bazar, Hathipole,
Ghanta Ghar, Chetak Circle, and other nearby areas, were shut down by the
evening.
