The
66th Grammy Awards unfolded in Los Angeles on Sunday (Monday in India), with
the Peacock Theater hosting the Premiere Ceremony earlier in the day, where the
majority of awards were presented. The prestigious big four awards were claimed
by Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus for record of the year ("Flowers"),
Victoria Monét as new artist, and the song of the year went to "What Was I
Made For?" [From "Barbie"], written by Billie Eilish O’Connell
& Finneas O’Connell. Swift secured album of the year for
"Midnights," making her the first person to win in that category four
times. Cyrus received her first-ever Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for
"Flowers" and a second Grammy for Record of the Year.
Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir
Hussain's fusion band 'Shakti' clinched the Grammy Award for 'Best Global Music
Album' on Monday for their latest release, 'This Moment.' In his acceptance
speech, Mahadevan expressed gratitude to his collaborators and dedicated the
award to his wife, drawing cheers from the crowd. The album, featuring eight
songs by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar
Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan
(violinist), was released on June 30 the previous year. The band competed for
the Grammy with artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.
Killer Mike, also known as Michael Render,
achieved a remarkable feat by winning all three categories he was nominated
for: Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album for his
self-titled 2023 studio album "Michael." However, later in the
evening, he faced an arrest by the Los Angeles Police Department due to a
physical altercation at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court. The rapper was
booked for misdemeanor battery and was in the process of being released as of
Sunday night, according to a statement from the LAPD on social media.
