Actions Taken by CISF

A senior CISF officer reported that the woman constable involved in slapping BJP leader and actor Kangana Ranaut has been suspended. Additionally, a complaint has been filed against her at the local police station for an FIR in relation to the incident at Chandigarh airport.

Constable's Statement

The CISF constable who allegedly slapped Kangana Ranaut stated that her mother was among the farmers participating in a sit-in protest against the now-repealed farm laws. She claimed that Kangana had made a derogatory remark about the farmers, saying, "She (Kangana) stated that the farmers are sitting there for ?100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement..."

Kangana Ranaut's Response

In a video message, Kangana Ranaut described what occurred at Chandigarh airport. “I am receiving numerous phone calls from the media and my well-wishers. Firstly, I am safe and perfectly fine. The incident at Chandigarh airport happened during the security check. After completing the security check, a CISF security staff member from the second cabin came up to me, hit me on the face, and began abusing me. When I questioned her actions, she claimed she supports the farmers' protest. While I am safe, I am concerned about the rising terrorism and extremism in Punjab,” she stated.

Political Context

The attack on Kangana Ranaut comes shortly after her victory in the Lok Sabha elections from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. The National Award-winning actor defeated her Congress rival, Vikramaditya Singh, by a margin of 74,755 votes, as per the Election Commission website.
