As our planet faces the growing threat of
climate change, it has become imperative for individuals to take responsibility
and reduce their carbon footprint. A carbon footprint is the total amount of
greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide that an individual's activities
contribute to the atmosphere.
The world's seven billion inhabitants currently have
diverse levels of resource consumption. According to United Nations projections,
the global population is expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050 and over 11
billion by 2100. The rise in population exacerbates emissions and exhausts the
Earth's resources.
The Deep
Decarbonization Pathways Project has determined that in order to limit the
global temperature increase to 2?C or less, the average annual carbon footprint
for every individual on the planet should be 1.87 tons by 2050. The escalation
in greenhouse gas emissions directly contributes to global warming, hastening
climate change and causing detrimental effects on our planet.
Addressing climate
change is not solely the responsibility of global leaders and Swedish
activists. Each individual has a role to play in the battle against global
warming by incorporating climate-friendly choices into their daily lives.
