70th National Film Awards Announced: 'Aattam' Wins Best Film, ‘Gulmohar’ Wins Best Hindi Film

The winners of the 70th National Film Awards were unveiled today, August 16, celebrating the best in Indian cinema for the year 2022. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) made the announcement during a press conference held in New Delhi.

Eligibility and Jury Composition

Films—both feature and non-feature—that received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, were eligible for consideration. This year’s jury was led by Rahul Rawail, who chaired the Feature Film Jury. Nila Madhab Panda served as Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury, while Gangadhar Mudalair chaired the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.

Felicitation Ceremony and Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The winners will be honored by President Droupadi Murmu at an awards ceremony slated for October 2024. During today’s announcement, the jury noted that the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be revealed at a later date.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic

The awards ceremony has experienced a two-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 69th National Film Awards, held in 2023, recognized the best Indian films certified in 2021.
